BOIMS CHAPEL

Working hours: daily in summertime, except Monday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Built in 1609-1615 at the cost of Lviv merchant Georgiy Boim, as a family shrine. Some researches consider Andriy Bemer to be the architect of the building. Sculptural decoration of the chapel was made in 1612-1615 (Y. Pfister, G. Scholz among the architects). The front wall is fully covered with stone carvings and resembles a relief icon wall. You can see relieves with the scenes of Passions, while the upper row represents the figures of Peter and Paul in the niches, covered with exquisite column carving.

THE MUSEUM OF LVIV ANCIENT MONUMENTS

The museum is situated in St. John the Baptist Church which dates back to the 13th15th centuries. The temple was rebuilt several times within the 16th-17th cc. Restoration in the Neo-gothic style was carried out in 1887 (architect Y. Zakhariyevych). Temporary museum exposition is dedicated to art pieces, sacred relics, historic documents, archeological discoveries telling of the ancient period in the city life.

THE OLD UKRAINIAN BOOK ART MUSEUM

Working hours: daily, except Monday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The museum was opened in 1997. Its exposition displays old Ukrainian printed matter works of Ukrainian medieval publishers, printers, and engravers. One of the museum halls represents the atmosphere of a medieval printing house. Museum exhibition hall serves for hosting exhibitions in bibliology, art, and memorial literature.

THE RUSALKA DNISTROVA MUSEUM

Working hours: daily, except Monday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m
The museum is situated in the 18th century architectural monument Sviatodukhivska (Holy Spirit) Tower. The exposition displays the original anthology Rusalka Dnistrova, explains the preconditions of the book emergence, and the history of its publishing.

THE LVIV HISTORY MUSEUM

Working hours: daily, except Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.Visitors are welcome to the antique art gallery Gothic Hall. Museum cafe in the so-called Italian courtyard Renaissance loggia of the former Kornyakt palace (6 Rynok Square) is used as a kind of cultural and artistic center. Every Monday the museum offers free entrance for students and pupils.
The museum was founded in 1893 on the initiative of Oleksandr Cholovskyy, famous historian and collector. In May 1908 the National Museum named after King Jan III was opened in the old stone house in 6 Rynok Square (1580), which had been bought by the town administration. Ten years later collection of the City Historical Museum was moved there, too. In 1926 the museum got a separate room the Black Stone House (1580-1589) in 4 Rynok Square. Exposition of Lviv Historical Museum was opened here in 1929 and occupied 18 halls. In 1940 Lviv Historical Museum and King Jan III National Museum were merged into a single institution Lviv Historical Museum.

Today Lviv Historical Museum is one of the richest museums of Ukraine which in 110 years of its existence has collected about 330 thousand of famous historic and artistic monuments of national and world recognition which truly reflect the history of the western region of Ukraine and Lviv from the ancient to modern time.

The Main Museum, exhibition "Historic Jewelry"

You can visit the exhibition Historic Jewelry in the king halls of Kornyakt palace which was used as Polish King Jan III Sobeskis residence in the 17th century. The exhibition displays unique 17th18th centuries monuments furniture, fine art, ancient clocks, musical instruments, artistic glass and porcelain items, rare orders and awards. Separate display is made up by collection of European artistic silver dating back to the period of Historism and Modern (second half of the 19th the early 20th century).

The Ancient and Medieval History Department

Among archeological monuments displayed here you will find a 20 thousand years old bone pipe, painted ceramics of Trypillya tribes a highly developed ethnic group that lived in IVIII millennium B. C., folding crosses for keeping relics of saints. Household items arouse particular interest: arms, kettle-drum, military awards of the Ukrainian Cossacks and Hetmans portraits; monuments of Lviv history: a volume Magdeburg Right (1581), city emblems, symbols and items made in Lviv workshops, collection of the 14th-15th century Lviv mint silver and gold coins, samples of the 12th-17th century Ukrainian book art.

The Modern and Recent History Department, exhibitions Military Historical Monuments of Ukraine, History of Ukrainian Diaspora

Expositions created in 1995 for the first time in the Ukrainian museum practice give an impartial elucidation to the national liberation struggle of the Ukrainian people for their state, activities of the Ukrainian Nationalist Organization, struggle of the Ukrainian rebel Army, genocide during Stalin repression, life of the Ukrainian Diaspora.

The Armory Department Arsenal Museum

The department was opened in 1981 to substitute for the former city armory (1955) and displays ancient cold weapon and fire arms, protective clothes: armors, hauberks, cuirasses, helmets, and military equipment from about forty countries of the world. Fire arms are represented by canons, harquebuses, pistols, and muskets.
