Each one year the first snow inaugurates the beginning of December & the Festival “JazzBez” and the last one is used to expand in time and space.
The IX International Festival “Jazz Bez” will last for ten days from 4 to 13 December. It will present a variety of jazz, experimental and improvised music of known and recognized groups and new projects of the prominent musicians.
For ten days the trans-border Jazz Marathon will unite the Ukrainian and Polish cities – L’viv, Przemys, Lublin, Sanok, Ternopil, Odessa, Lutsk and Kyiv.
The Festival will bring together over twenty jazz projects & about a hundred musicians from 9 countries /USA, Germany, Denmark, Britain, France, Russia, Belarus, Poland and Ukraine/.
IX “Jazz Bez” will gift:
* Unique singing of “Ukrainian Björk” – Marjana Sadovska & «Trio Köln» /Germany/
* Performance of the favorites of L’viv audience – project «Shockolad + PL» accompanied by the orchestra «Leopolis» /new program/.
* Hard-bop project «New Bone», leader – well- known jazzman Thomas Kudyk
* «Jagodzinski Trio» – the titled ” interpreters of Chopin in jazz»
* International project «Avtokar» uniting the prominent representatives of free jazz from Ukraine, great Britain and Poland: Mark Tokar, Mark Sanders, WaclaW Zimpel, Mikolaj Tshaska
* «Doneda – Yaremchuk – Blondi – Nakatani» – star-project of the improvised music masters: Michel Doneda – French saxophone virtuoso /over 30 years of experience/, Yuriy Yaremchuk – the authority of Ukrainian improvised music, Frederic Blond – French jazz pianist and Tasuyi Nakatani – an eminent Japanese percussionist.
* «Dzyga Jazz Quartet» – the patriarchs of L’viv Jazz
* «GURZUF» /Belarus/ – some expressive experiments with an accordion and drums.
* «Happy 55» /Russia/- nowadays it’s one of the most original projects in Russia /Dzhaz.Ru statement/
* «Thuillier Trio» – group from France , front-man Francois Thuillie , a master of tuba. The Trio is going to demonstrate some new possibilities of wind instruments in jazz.
* «Auguscik-Kinior-Makaruk Trio» – an experimental electronic jazz project which combines the minimalistic improvisations of Darius Makaruk & Wlodek Kiniorski /composers of music for films and theatre plays/ and singing the famous American jazz vocalist Grazyna Auguscik
* Group «EMPE-3″. Leader – Mateusz Pospieszalski, famous saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist and composer of Polish jazz .
* Project of one of the most powerful Polish jazz vocalists «Bogna Kicinska Jazz Project»
* International quartet of contemporary jazz «OFF-QUAR-TET» / Denmark, Poland/
* «Contemporary Noise Sextet», energetic Polish jazz, includes the elements of music from films and improvisations.
The Festival “Jazz Bez” will be held in large concert halls and clubs.
L’viv, as always, remains the center of the Festival not only organizationally but also ideologically. In the space of 10 days all the participants will have their concerts in our city.

“Jazz Bez” is one of the most famous and the most long-time jazz festivals. It has managed not only to “live” successfully for 9 years but every new year it used to increase the audience and to invite famous musicians from around the world, to join new cities and to expand the program to 10 days.
It was started in 2000 and presented the concerts of several jazz groups from L’viv and Przemysl. Till now “Jazz Bez” has occupied the cultural centers of Ukraine and Poland. And each year it surprises the audience with the performances of the best jazz musicians of Western civilization. But the key message of “Jazz Bez” /gaining prestige in the European jazz ratings/ – jazz can grow & develop in Ukraine.
For nine years, music has been undermining the boundaries and conventions, jazz is gaining new adepts and high spirits remains long after the concerts.
“Jazz Bez-2009″ is not going to make an exclusion as well.
