The 7th Annual Festival “Kino Lev” will be held, providing all movie fans with a truly emotional and cultural feast. This year, “Kino Lev” will explore the concept: “Cinema as Propaganda” and accordingly the festival program will present film masterpieces by such world renowned filmmakers as Oleksandr Dovzhenko, Leni Riefenstahl, Anatoly Litvak and many others.
Traditionally during the festival, film screenings under the title: “The other view” will present the creative works of young filmmakers of Georgia. The main criteria for the film selection for the festival was to choose young filmmakers who has a strong independent view of world issues. A highlight of the festival will be a retrospective film screening of works by one of the 20th century’s greatest masters of cinema, Sergei Parajanov who made two masterpieces in a row: Tini Zabutykh Predkiv (Shadows of the Forgotten Ancestors) (1965) and Sayat Nova (1968). Both films established him as a phenomenon with no analogy in the art world.
Also the “KinoLev – 2012” retrospective program will feature screenings of films by Claude Chabrol, a French film director and a member of the French New Wave (nouvelle vague) group of filmmakers who first came to prominence at the end of the 1950s.
Additionally, the ”KinoLev – 2012” festival program will offer movie-goers lots of fun with various competitions, presentations, exhibitions and a special program for children “KinoLevchik”, which will be held together with the Polish festival for Youth “Ale Kino!”.
