Grand art project «Tyzhden’ / Week of Contemporary Art» will take place in L’viv.

From August 28 to September 6, an extremely significant event in the contemporary artistic life of Ukraine, the Project «Tyzhden’ / Week of Contemporary Art, will take place in L’viv for the second time. This grand project will be held with the goal to promote & develop both Ukrainian and International contemporary art. Entrance to all events will be free of charge.
Last year, the successful realization of the first «Tyzhden’» resonated in the media and amongst artists, critics and participants alike. This year’s «Tyzhden’» identifies itself as a project aimed to give young artists the opportunity to demonstrate their creativity and talents.
More than 50 artists from Ukraine and other European countries will be demonstrated during “Tyzhden’”. The project will bring together performances, installations, «new media» projects, videos, film demonstrations, round tables, lectures, discussions and master classes.
This year’s theme/concept «Tyzhden’ / Week of Contemporary Art» is «B.N.» /Untitled/. «B.N.» reflects the diverse nature of contemporary art and its tendency to defy categories and labels.
The work of three artists will highlight the festival. The featured artists are Erwin Redl with his sound and light installation “Speed Shift,” Andriy Sahaydakovskyy with his painting series “ Happy Life” and Igor Yanovych with his photographs and painting series “Context.”
World-renowned Austrian artist Erwin Redl, who at the invitation of «Dzyga» visited L’viv with his lecture in early April, has agreed to present his sound and light installation especially for «Tyzhden’ / Week of Contemporary Art». The installation will be located in the historic center of L’viv, in the courtyard of the Bernardino Monastery.
The «Tyzhden’ /Week of Contemporary Art» will also include the presentation of the new issue of the oldest art magazine in Ukraine «Kinets’ – Kintsem». This issue was prepared by Rostyslav Koterlin, magazine editor, in cooperation with Art Association «Dzyga». The theme of the magazine is «The Voice of Artist» and it contains more then ten exclusive interviews with significant artists, gallery owners and curators from Ukraine, Poland and Russia.
The structure of “Tyzhden” consists of three components:
* Days of Performance Art in L’viv
The given integral part of the Project includes the performances that are going to capture the city center and will be held at different periods of day & night, shocking or bewitching audience and occasional witnesses … Well – known masters of this art: Vlodko Kaufman, Myroslav Yaremak, Yaroslav Yanovsky, Rostyslav Koterlin, Volodymyr Topiy , Oles’ Dzyndra, Hamlet Zinkovskyy will participate in the Days of Performance Art.
* MediaDepo
In 2009 MediaDepo will focus on art-video about utopia and urban utopia. This “unit” will present the nova of the most prestigious European festivals of «new media»: «Ars Electronics», «Interfilm», «Impakt», «Videomedeya», «Transmediale», «Videoloh», «WRO» … Finally MediaDepo will offer the specifically composed for L’viv selection of Jonas Mekas’ and George Makunas’ works. The program will be accompanied by the experimental sets of the videos 1980-1990s.
* Independent Projects
The given “ingredient” will unite the most diverse manifestations of the creativity of many famous artists: performances, installations and interactive projects performed by the recognized persons of contemporary art: Artem Volokitin, Rostyslav Koterlin, Oleksa Furdiyak, Anatoly Belov, representatives of the Formation «Coma» Sergiy Petlyuk & Oleksiy Khoroshko, members of the group «Totem» Stas Volyazlovsky, Sergiy Dyachenko, Olena & Max Afanasyev, Yuri Barannik- director of Zaporizhya-city art gallery «Lenin», Myroslav Wayda – curator of Environment- project «Transgresiyi», Sergiy Savchenko, Ruslan Tremba Patrick Bailey-Kouel, Jaroslav Pershko, Tamara Gridyayeva …
All the projects of the «Tyzhden’» will take place in the historic part of L’viv: Gallery «Dzyga», the square in front of the Bernardino monastery, Museum of Ideas, Center of Intuitive Art /Jam factory in Khmelnytskyj street/, Museum of Ethnography and Crafts, Art Gallery «Primus», the defense walls of the Bernardino monastery and others.

We visit Lviv from 17 until 24 October. We know that the Opera in Lviv is closed in this period.
